The official start of summer is just around the corner and with every new season comes different cleaning tasks.  Continue reading for a few of our best tips for keeping your facility neat and clean during as we kick-off summer in Michigan!

Windows

The green trees and blue sky draws us to look outside more frequently these days, causing us to notice how dirty our windows have become over the winter.  Late spring and summer are busy times for window washing in Michigan and these firms are easily booking weeks out for work.  The pros recommend washing windows quarterly to prevent staining, etching and hazing from developing on the glass to extend the life of your windows.  Be sure to have screens and sills cleaned at the same time for optimal cleanliness- this is a standard part of service for most reputable window washing professionals.

HVAC

Having your HVAC system cleaned on a regular basis including air ducts as well as tune-ups for furnaces and air conditioning units keeps your system running at optimal efficiency.  This will not only extend the life of your HVAC system and lower energy bills but create a healthier environment within the building by removing dirt, allergens and dust that would otherwise continue to be circulated throughout.   Change filters as recommended by the manufacturer to remove dust and pollen carried into the house from the outside.

Pest Control

Warmer weather causes an increase in insects outside who want to join us inside.  An eco-friendly way to prevent their entry is to spread diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of any building, commercial or residential.  Diatomaceous earth is a sedimentary powder formed from the fossils of diatoms, a type of algae.  Keeping these pests out keeps the building cleaner by preventing cobwebs, dead bugs in corners and on window sills and preventing them from breeding indoors- especially important for food and health based businesses.

Humidity

Hard-water stains and mildew can easily form on surfaces that accumulate moisture in humid environments.  Keep these surfaces wiped down and as dry as possible to prevent these unsightly situations from developing.  The use of dehumidifiers helps to cut down on excessive moisture and resulting odors.   Be sure to clean the dehumidifier per the manufacturer’s recommendations to prevent mildew from growing in the water collection tank that will defeat part of the de-humidifiers original purpose.
